Writing is my passion and fiction; non-fiction and translations are my forte! I am Jayashri Desai, a full time Marathi journalist since 80’s!

Words and books came very early in my life due to my father, late Mr. Prabhakar Atre, who was a very well-known Marathi author with around 60 books to his credit. In a way one can say that I am carrying a forward a glorious legacy of my father.

I have done post graduate degree course in Journalism, from Pune University and am a recipient of a very prestigious award. I am double graduate, in science as well as in law and have also done a diploma in Naturopathy.

I have worked in various capacities first in an eveninger, Mumbai Tarun Bharat, and then in very popular news weeklies Lokprabha and Chitralekha.

Since 2008, I worked as editor of two very popular Marathi weeklies Maitreen, devoted to women and Bhatakanti, the only travel magazine in Marathi. I was heading a company by name Maitreya Mass Communication. In the same year we launched Maitreya Publication, a book publishing division. And within 3 years of its inception I took it to top 5 publication houses in Marathi

I also headed electronic division of the Maitreya, i.e. Maitreya Mass Media.

And have also worked on the advisory board of another company, Maitreya Rural Growth Venture and as coordinator of their foundation formed for their CSR activities.

After quitting ‘Maitreya’, I have started my very own media solutions company by name ‘Bridge Media Solutions’. I am also sharing responsibility as faculty of Mumbai University. I teach Journalism, to be specific, Editing to the post graduate students of Mumbai University. I am also on the course committee of Mumbai University.

I have won many prestigious awards for my contribution to the field of journalism and also for my contribution as the editor.

Among my books a few of them are translations of very famous books of very famous celebrities. Notable among them are –

1] Kaifee ani Mee— Writer Shaukat Kaifi [ Mother of Shabana Azmi] [original name of the book – Yad Ki Rahgujar]

2] Tarkash  - First poetry collection of well-known poet & screen play writer Javed Akhtar. This is his first ever book that has been translated in Marathi and credit goes to me!

3] Akshay Gaane— Padma Sachdev. The very famous writer / poet from Kashmir is Lata Mangeshkarji's friend since 1968. Akshay Gaane is translation of her memoirs, ' Aisa Kahan se Lau'. But it is not a mere translation because after a very detailed talk spanning so many months, I have done enormous additions in the original book.

4] Make up Utaravlyanantar – Actress Mrunal Kulkarni – I have rewritten this book of hers by discussing with her.

5] Body Godess – Payal Gidwani. Payal is a yoga teacher of celebrities. She has written this beautiful book and I have translated it.

I write poems in all three languages that is, Marathi, English and Hindi . My Marathi poems do get published regularly in Diwali issues and my English poem got published in ‘Skylark’, a quarterly magazine solely devoted to English poetry with a worldwide circulation
